Katie Stimmel

Katie Stimmel draws on her extensive experience as a Capitol Hill journalist to provide clients with real-time information on tax policy developments on Capitol Hill and at the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service. She essentially functions as the in-house reporter on the legislative team, helping to make sure that clients have the most up-to-date information on legislative and regulatory developments.

On any given day, Katie is tracking hearings and House and Senate floor proceedings, monitoring regulatory developments, communicating with journalists and Hill staff, and gathering information that helps our clients achieve their legislative goals. She also conducts research on issues that are of interest to specific clients.

Before joining Capitol Tax Partners, Katie was the chief Congressional tax reporter for the Bureau of National Affairs’ Daily Tax Report, where she covered several key tax bills, including the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 and the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003, among others.

In more than a dozen years at BNA, she wrote more than 1,000 articles on legislative and regulatory issues and developed an extensive network of tax policy and journalism contacts.

Before moving to Washington, she was a press officer at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, where she developed media strategies and wrote speeches, newsletter articles and press releases for the environmental regulatory agency.

Katie earned a BS in Journalism and a BA in Political Science from Boston University.
